Golf Tips - Good Gear and Sportsmanship
By: Trevor Mulholland
If you are just getting into the sport of golf, you have probably heard thousands of golf tips from well-meaning golfers. However, what many golfers fail to realize is that many of the golf tips that work well for one golfer, simply do not work well for another. Here are some golf tips that work well for everyone.
As a beginner, do not rush out and buy a set of high priced clubs. Buy a set of used clubs, or better yet rent your clubs. Take a little time to see if you really enjoy the game of golf, and if you will stick to it first. The used or rented clubs wont be the top of the line, but they will get you through several games of golf to see if you are going to stick with it. This is also a good opportunity to start researching exactly what clubs you need when you are ready to buy a new set.
Golf is fun, but the sport should not be taken lightly. It is a sport it isnt just a bunch of retired men knocking a ball around. It takes a great deal of skill and technique to master the game. The pros you see on television make it look quite simple but it isnt. The concepts you will learn from more experienced golfers will sound easy and look easy in theory, but in practice, they are quite difficult. The sooner you realize this, the faster you will start to improve your game.
While golf does require skill and technique, it is still meant to be enjoyed and the experience should be relaxing. If you get angry over bad shots or you find that you are not enjoying the game, you should back up and re-evaluate your reasons for playing the game. Try to look at things from a new perspective. It is a game that tests your skill but it should not test your patience!
Choose your golf aids carefully. A great deal of money can be wasted on aids, courses, and videos that turn out to not be any help at all. When possible, buy used aids, courses, and videos. Save your golfing money for more important things like clubs, balls, and tees! Used clubs arent very good used training equipment usually works quite well.
Golf is great exercise. Riding in a golf cart defeats that purpose though. Walk, dont ride! Save the cart for the days when you really are too old to walk a short distance take advantage of the exercise that you will get by walking from one tee to the next, and take the time to actually enjoy the walk!
Alcohol is often served at the clubhouse but you should wait until you finish your round of golf before consuming any. First, the alcohol will greatly alter your game. Second, alcohol is a dehydrating substance, and this isnt safe in the hot sun. Carry water with you during your game, and make sure you drink plenty of it!
Becoming good at the game takes a lot of practice. Use your practice sessions to learn what mistakes you are making, and work to correct them. Dont just keep making the same mistakes over and over, thinking that it doesnt matter, or that it is too hard to learn! If youre going to play, play to win!
Use training aids, and if possible, video tape yourself playing a round of golf, making sure that you get close up shots of you teeing off, close up shots of the club hitting the ball on the tee-off, and even shots of you putting. Have a friend run the camera for you for best results, and review the tape in slow motion to see what needs the most work.
The most important golf tips you will ever receive are the ones that focus on good sportsmanship. Never make fun of other players. Some people do look funny playing golf but those funny looking people can probably beat every aspect of your game, and they will have the last laugh. Be respectful of your fellow golfers, and listen closely to the advice of the seasoned players.

Hand carts allow you to roll your bag throughout the golf course instead of having to carry them over your shoulder. There are many designs as to how they fold over so investigate which one appeals to you. There are some carts which are hands-free. They are controlled remotely and follow you around like a puppy dog. Prices range from the less expensive, no frills type to "I need all the help I can get when it comes to playing this game" hand cart. Be sure to see how the carts are put together and what type of materials are used. Are there replacement parts if anything needs to be repaired? Is there a warranty and for how long is the coverage? Some of these carts can get expensive so investigate the pros and cons to all the types available.

It's important to look at things like the weather and the course conditions when choosing a ball. If, say, the course has been deluged with rain, then you will need a ball that will travel farther and produces less spin. If you are playing on a rock hard, sun-scorched track, choose something softer that will land soft and spin.

Some Golf Tips For You
by Lee MacRae
The following tips have been gleaned from various sources over the years. We hope you enjoy them.
You'll generate a lot of power if you forget about building up the muscles in your body and concentrate instead on whipping the hips. Look at golfing legend Gary player. He's only 5'7" tall, but he hits the ball a long way by moving his hips as fast as possible for right to left in the downswing. But not so fast that he loses control of the swing. The idea is to have the hips moving to the left, where they'll open naturally. If you keep your head behind the ball through impact, you'll form a sort of human catapult that will send your ball soaring.
Always club down from a driver if, in so doing, you avoid a downhill lie for your second shot. The downhill lie is the toughest of all lies to hit from. An uphill lie, though, isn't difficult at all, just so long as your club selection compensates for the slope. A flat lie is by far the best lie to hit from. So if by staying away from your driver you have the option of a flat or an uphill lie - don't think twice. Club down.
Warm up and stretch your muscles before you tee off. If you have ever been to a live pro golf event you will notice that the golfers don't just arrive at the course and immediately head to the tee box. Instead they go to the driving range, stretch for awhile and then hit some balls. It is a fact that when your muscles are warmed up they perform better and in turn positively influence your golf swing. So try to arrive at the golf course a few minutes early to loosen up and take a few swings.
If you implement these tips and work on them, you will be certain to develop a better drive within a short period of time. Just keep on practicing and working on your improvement. It's only a matter of time before your scores begin to drop.

More Thoughts On GolfIf the shoulders are in a closed position (facing to the right of the target) the clubhead travel will be inside-to-outside of the target line. With the shoulders parallel to the target line at impact, the clubhead travel will be inside-to-direct. This shoulder motion allows the clubhead to travel to the target, not away from the target as in the other positions.Remember the shoulders must remain passive, and are a follower in your swing, not a leader.

I have a drill that may work for you when practicing your putting stroke called the Tap stroke. To learn this stroke pretend there is a tack stuck in the back of the ball and when you make your stroke have the putter head drive the tack further into the ball. This will encourage you to hit the ball with more authority which with this shorter stroke there will be less chance of the putter blade getting out of what is called square position. So start getting "Tacky" on the greens!

Golf Swing eBook And Audio Course As Their Secret Training Tool In Their Quest For Lower Scores.
Cast Iron Golf Clubs Or Forged?
By: Lee MacRae
With so many different makes and types of
golf clubs on the market, it is no wonder beginners, let alone the more experienced golfer, can become easily confused when it comes to buying clubs.
Follow along as we examine what is available on the market today and what they can do for you...and your golf game.
To begin with, it should be noted that ordinary, everyday golf clubs will work for virtually anybody standing between 5 feet and six feet tall. That principle applies to both men and women. There are enough standard clubs on the market that you should be able to find ones to suit the rest of your needs in a golf club.
If you are outside the heights for standard clubs, then you may want to look at getting custom clubs made just for you.
Cast or Forged Clubs?
Cast iron is the normal route to take when buying new clubs.
What makes cast iron the right choice for most? The answer centers on a particular feature of the cast iron club - a larger "sweet spot". That refers to the area right smack dab in the middel of the club face where you are supposed to hit the ball. The bigger the sweet spot, the better chance of hitting well it every time. It makes it a little easier to hit the "bulls eye" every time on your shots. You can see why beginners are usually told to stay with cast iron clubs Their swing is not as consistant as a seasoned golfer or a pro and so they have an easier time driving the ball well with a larger sweet spot at their disposal. That is why you see a lot of oversized club heads on the market today. They allow average duffers the opportunity of striking the ball well and getting great drives more often.
Conversely, forged iron golf clubs have a much smaller sweet spot and it is far more difficult to hit a ball well with this kind of club.
So why even make golf clubs out of forged iron, you ask?
Well, because they are made of a softer steel, they offer a better "feel" on each and every shot. The more seasoned player, especially the pros on the circuit, don't need that larger sweet spot. They have a more consistant swing plane and strike the ball with far more accuracy. They use the "feel" of the the forged iron clubs to influence the flight of the ball in a way that a beginner or average player can't.
The shaft of the club is your next thing to look at. Specifically the material it will be made from. Basically, you have steel or composite shafts
The important touchstone here is golf club speed. An ordinary golf player will have a club velocity of 80-94 mph. Slower speeds normally means looking at a shaft made from composite material. The problem with lower speed is you get less distance on your shots. You need to generate more speed [and more power] or find some way to compensate until you can. Composite shafts will allow you to get that much needed distance on your shots. And even within the composite shaft class, you will find variations in flex and materials that will affect your game.
On the other hand, if you already have good distance on your shots due to good swing speed, you can add some touch and feel to your game very similar to that obtained by using the forged iron clubs. You get the best of both worlds.
Visit your local golf pro shop or look for a store that offers custom work and they will help you to determine your own club head speed and which type of shaft you should use. Or you can buy one of the many swing speed radar devices on the market and clock your speed yourself.
With only these few starting tips, it is typically best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club serves or handicaps your game. You are looking to ascertain your own strengths as well as weaknesses. Check out the assorted types and varieties of golf clubs you may find in a rental shop, for example, and discover what works best for you.
Work on these tips and make sure you tee off with a positive mindset. The more you practice and implement what you learn, the more confidence you will gain in your ability to hit it straight and long. And watch your scores begin to plummet!
