Full Golf Swing - How To Generate More Power In Your Swing

By: Dean Caporella

Achieving a full golf swing as a senior player becomes more and more difficult the older one gets. Naturally, distance will wane over time but accuracy shouldn't and hitting the ball straight shouldn't be an issue if you've been playing the game for any length of time.

However, many senior players cite shortening distance as their main issue and dream of the times they used to be able to belt the ball over considerable ground.

This article is not going to turn you into the world's longest hitter but will help you maintain a full golf swing and help you maximize the greatest amount of power into your shot.

Winding Up For A Big Golf Swing

Achieving greater distance has a lot to do with the fullness of the golf swing. Many players will check their swings too early before coming down on the ball. They do this by fighting the bend of the elbow. If you're a right-hander that bend is in the right arm and vice-versa for a left-hander.

By preventing the elbow from bending naturally as you draw back on your shot is preventing you from taking a full wind-up and hence, by the time the club has made impact with the ball, the power generated won't be as great as it would have been if the elbow bend wasn't resisted.

The secret is to make sure your arms are flexible during the pre-swing period and to let the elbow bend naturally.

Overcoming Inflexibility

For older players, it's not so much resisting the elbow bend which affects their ability to get distance but it's more a matter of waning flexibility and diminishing power.

The older one gets the more the tendency is to hunch over. This only serves to restrict your turning ability thus affecting your power. Instead, practice standing straighter. Bending the knees ever so slightly, make sure your back is straight and you are bending forward until your club is in the contact position with the ball.

Practice this until you are comfortable with it and then take it to the practice range. The idea with this technique is to allow those older players who don't quite possess the flexibility anymore, to be able to take a full golf swing at the ball without compromising their accuracy. The club will swing in a more vertical motion because of the straighter stance.

Yes, it may feel awkward at first but remember, it's really only a minor adjustment in terms of the way you stand over the ball and shouldn't present any problems in it's correct execution.

Build An Athletic Platform
Developing a powerful and consistent golf swing always starts with the address position. Tension should be avoided at all costs. Instead, the setup should have a light and bouncy feel that gets you ready to move freely in an athletic way. Tension restricts the body from moving properly and requires the hands and arms to play too active a role in the swing. Rehearse your setup carefully, and your swing will improve.

Speed Controls Distance-The seemingly obvious fact that the sand (not the club) moves the ball out of the bunker is often misunderstood. To control the distance your bunker shots travel, you have to be able to manage the speed of the sand, which isnt as difficult as you might imagine. The length of the swing is irrelevantits the speed of the clubhead that really matters. Practice pitching sand out of a bunker until you can consistently control how far it goes, and only then add a golf ball to the equation.

The follow-through is the result of the prior body movements. After impact it's just a matter of releasing all tension and letting centrifugal force finish your swing. Centrifugal force will keep the clubface travel and clubface angle in the proper position. After the ball leaves the clubface there is nothing you can do that will affect the flight of the ball.

Golf Swing Weight - Best Choices For Swing Training Aid

By Staffan Moritz

Golfers are constantly looking to improve the golf swing. There are a number of golf swing training and teaching aids that can help with improving your golf swing. One golf swing teaching aid that has gained popularity is the golf swing weight. This golf swing training equipment is inexpensive, easy to use, and can be used at home or when you are away from the golf course.

I recommend using a pitching wedge when practising with a golf swing weight, but you can also use it on any golf iron. Once you have the golf swing weight on your club, you simply swing as normal. You can practice with this piece of golf training equipment on the driving range, or right before a round of golf.

One main reason you should practise with a golf swing weight is to improve your flexibility. Flexibility really is the key to a successful and effective golf swing. You will also be increasing power to your golf swing, and overall strength. Since you are using the weight during your normal golf swing, you are working your golf muscles. Lack of golf strength is one of the most common problems that golfers have, but it is one of the easiest areas to improve.

Another benefit of the golf swing weight is that it makes the club head of your golf club heavier, you will be able to easily track the path of your club head during your golf swing. This can help you improve your golf swing plane, allowing you to work on having a square club face at impact. You will be able to strike the ball more solidly with the improved feel that the golf swing weight will give you.

If you are truly looking for a way to quickly and easily improve your golf swing and golf game, try shopping online for a golf swing weight. With the golf swing weight, it will be simple to practice at your home without wasting time traveling to the driving range.

Tips About Golf Drivers

Proper Sequence Is Key-There are many elements of impact that must come together to produce consistency, but the key lies in the sequence. From the top of the backswing, the legs and hips must initiate the downswing by moving toward the target, past their original position at address. This creates the proper tilt in the shoulders that allows the right arm to remain flexed at impact, while the left wrist becomes flat. Basically, a proper impact position is the result of a proper sequence of movements.

Controlling the Course
In order to play the course well, you need to control the ball, it's a vicious circle. Control the ball, control the club, the body must be doing the right thing, the mind must be at ease and then you can control the course. We get two types of golfers at our school. Those who hit there ball and follow it around the golf course and it leads them on a very merry chase, and those who actually pick a target and direct, not steer, their golf ball toward the target. Basically, golfers swing different, but they all play the same. It's just a different target that they're playing to, a very long hitter is picking one out at 300 yards, a shorter hitter maybe picking one at 125 yards, but everybody needs to pick targets and break the course up into manageable bits of real estate. Very much like you'd cut your steak at night, you cut it in size bits that you're comfortable chewing and that's the way you have to chew up the golf course. So learn to control the golf ball, if you can control the ball, you must be controlling the club. If you're controlling the club, your body must be doing the right thing. If your body is doing the right thing then the minds probably in the right place and has been programmed correctly. Then, and only then, do you have any chance of controlling the golf course.
